Welcome Home
Wild Homecoming isn’t simply a safari.
It isn’t a yoga retreat. And it isn’t just another holiday.
It’s an invitation to experience Zimbabwe in a deeply authentic way.
For ten days, we’ll make our home at a beautiful River House on the vast, family-run Rocky Glen Ranch in Southern Zimbabwe.
Here, life moves differently.
Guided more by nature, the rising and setting sun, the changing light and the rhythms of the land.
There is a sense of timelessness here.
A feeling of stepping away from the clock and into something older, slower and more instinctive.
Horses. Water. Wildlife. Vast, untouched landscapes. Open skies. Food grown and prepared with care. Stories around the fire.
This isn’t somewhere you’ll simply visit. It’s somewhere you’ll be welcomed.
Come as a guest. Perhaps leave feeling a little like family.
The Story Behind
Wild Homecoming
Having been invited by Sindy and Tanja, this adventure grew from my own experience of staying at Rocky Glen…
What stayed with me wasn’t one particular activity or wildlife sighting.
It was the feeling.
The warmth. The generosity. The slower rhythm of life.
Walking with Sindy and seeing the land through her eyes. Conversations on the veranda. Beautiful meals. Sitting beside the river. Practising yoga outside. Spending time with the horses.
I came home calmer, clearer and more connected to myself.
It felt like a homecoming.
I was first introduced to Rocky Glen by Tanja, and since that first visit, the two of us have been shaping Wild Homecoming together with Sindy and the women in the Maverick Mums community who have shared their hopes and ideas for this adventure.
Again and again, we came back to the same words.
Authentic. Magical. Homely. Timeless. Back to our roots.
And so, Wild Homecoming was born!
Authentic. Magical. Homely. Timeless. Back to our roots.
Our Home by the River
Our home for the adventure sits beside the river at the edge of Rocky Glen.
When I stayed here, I was completely mesmerised by it.
A beautiful, shady lawn runs towards the water. The veranda looks out across the river, while the sounds of everyday life from the neighbouring community gently carry across — voices, movement, people fishing.
Inside, it feels warm and lived in.
A real home.
A place with stories.
Peaceful and connected all at once.
This will become the heart of Wild Homecoming.
The place we return to.
Gather.
Eat.
Rest.
Reflect.
And call home for ten days.
With only eight women, the experience will remain intimate and deeply personal.
The Heart & Soul of the Experience
Every Wild Homecoming will be slightly different, shaped by the women who join us, the wildlife, the weather and the land itself.
Horses & Ranch Life
Horses are woven into the heart of life at Rocky Glen (but it’s so much more than that!).
We’ll spend time riding (if you’d like to, no pressure and no experience necessary), connecting with the herd and exploring a more holistic relationship with horses.
There may be opportunities to help with the horses, ride through the bush, swim with them and experience the deeply grounding adventure of mustering cattle on horseback.
We’ll also step into the everyday rhythm of a working family ranch – cattle, chickens, crops, food production and life lived in close relationship with the land.
Ancient Landscapes & Wildlife
We’ll immerse ourselves in a wild landscape where giant baobabs, ancient cycad forests, hidden caves, Bushman paintings and dramatic gorges are home to an extraordinary diversity of wildlife, as we discover the geology, conservation efforts and ancient stories that shape this remarkable place.
As we explore, we may encounter giraffe, zebra, kudu, eland, bushbuck, impala, wildebeest, warthog, hippo, elephants, crocodiles and hyena, while birds of prey soar overhead and, if we’re especially fortunate, we may even catch a glimpse of one of the ranch’s elusive leopards or the visiting herd of elephants.
By the time we visit, Rocky Glen Ranch is also expected to be home to 30 black and white rhinos as part of an exciting conservation partnership with the Zimbabwean Government, making this an even more inspiring place to experience conservation in action.
We’ll learn to look more closely. To read our surroundings. To follow tracks. To notice the history lying beneath our feet.
And sometimes, we’ll simply sit. Beneath an ancient tree. Listening. Noticing.
Allowing ourselves to become curious about what the living world might have to teach us.
Water & Wild Adventure
Water runs through the landscape and through much of our adventure.
We’ll wild swim in clear river pools, canoe, walk barefoot across ancient rocks and head out onto the water for birding, river cruises and sundowners.
There may be opportunities to fish and prepare our catch with a local for dinner.
Adventure here isn’t about adrenaline. It’s about feeling alive.
Community & Culture
Rocky Glen is deeply connected to the people and communities around it.
This is an opportunity to meet people. To listen to their stories. To learn about everyday life and, where we’re welcomed, become part of it for a little while.
We may cook traditional food together, spend time with local craftspeople, visit the neighbouring community and share meals, stories, singing, drumming and traditional dancing.
There may also be an opportunity to spend time with the local church community.
These aren’t performances created for tourists.
Simply people meeting people.
Wild Yoga & Wellbeing
Rhi will be there throughout the entire adventure, hosting our group, holding the space and leading all of our Wild Yoga and wellbeing experiences.
Wild Yoga isn’t about perfect poses or formal classes.
It’s a practice of listening. To your body. To the land. To the quieter, wiser parts of yourself.
We’ll move, breathe, meditate and reflect in different places across Rocky Glen — beside the river, beneath trees, near the water and out in the wider landscape.
Through Wild Yoga, I’ll gently invite you to awaken your senses, deepen your connection with the living world and become curious about the intelligence of your own body.
Nature will be our greatest guide.
There will also be simple, nature-inspired wellbeing experiences woven into our days.
Barefoot grounding. Fire gazing. Natural soundscapes. Deep rest. Bush spa experiences using locally inspired ingredients and, perhaps, massage beneath the trees.
No previous yoga or meditation experience is needed.
Everything is an invitation.
How We Hold the Space
Wild Homecoming will begin and end with simple ceremony, with small moments of ritual and intention gently woven through our time together.
Nothing formal or inaccessible. For me, ceremony is simply a way of marking a moment. Of arriving fully. Of acknowledging the land and the four directions. Of bringing our attention to where we are and who we’re sharing the experience with.
We’ll create a shared space built on trust, care and consideration for one another. A space where we can speak from the heart. Listen from the heart. Share when we want to. Be quiet when we need to.
There will be circles, reflection, journaling, storytelling, poetry and invitations to notice our dreams and what each experience might awaken in us.
Moments that, I hope, stay with you long after you leave Zimbabwe.
You never need to perform or be anything other than yourself.
A Gentle Rhythm
Our days will follow the natural rhythm of the land rather than a rigid timetable.
We’ll live more closely with our circadian rhythms, guided by daylight, darkness, sunrise and sunset.
Mornings may begin with Wild Yoga, meditation or an optional sunrise walk, perhaps followed by breakfast out in the bush.
There will be adventure and exploration, but plenty of space around it.
Time to swim. Rest. Read. Journal. Dream. Wander. Or simply sit beside the river.
Some days may take us out for longer adventures. Perhaps even an optional sleep-out beneath the stars.
As the sun begins to drop, we’ll come back together. To watch the sunset. Reflect. Share beautiful food. Sit around the fire. Listen to stories. Look up at the stars.
The space between the experiences matters just as much as the experiences themselves.
Nourishment
Food is an important part of Wild Homecoming.
Not fine dining or elaborate menus. Simply generous, nourishing, home-cooked food made with care.
Fresh, seasonal produce, locally grown or sourced wherever possible. Traditional Zimbabwean flavours alongside wholesome, family-style meals.
Bush breakfasts. Picnics in wild places. Long dinners together. Perhaps a meal beneath an ancient baobab.
Fresh filter coffee in the mornings. Herbal teas. Popcorn over the fire. Wine shared around the table on some evenings. Homemade cakes and simple desserts.
Food that feels comforting, abundant and homely.
Because some of our most memorable moments will happen around the table.
At Its Heart
At its heart, Wild Homecoming is an invitation to slow down enough to remember what it feels like to belong.
To belong to your body.
To belong to the Earth.
To belong to a community.
To belong to yourself.
It’s an invitation to experience Zimbabwe not simply as somewhere to visit, but as somewhere that gently invites you back into relationship — with the land, with its people, with the rhythms of nature and with the quieter, wiser parts of yourself.
To step, for a little while, into a sense of timelessness.
To remember a slower, more instinctive way of living.
What it feels like to be alive.
To be human.
To be part of the living world.
