The adventure of
wild swimming
All around the world, people love to swim. Young, old, wobbly, firm, fleshy, thin – to the water we are all equal. Nature simply doesn’t care. For me it’s enough to know that I will leave the water feeling that happy buzz that stays with me for the rest of my day.

The perfect exercise
Whatever you want to call it; wild, open water, cold water… and whatever age, shape, size, colour, fitness level you are – swimming really is the perfect physical, mental and spiritual exercise.
The body feels supported and weightless in the dense water (take it from me it’s the only place you feel weightless at 40 weeks pregnant!), and your body benefits from movement without the wear and tear that exercising on land can have. The rhythmic nature of your strokes encourages regular breathing and improve lung efficiency and capacity. Swimming is a whole-body workout – core, hamstrings, glutes, shoulders… and it’s proven to make you younger!
But swimming isn’t just good for your body, it’s great for your mind and spirit. It’s a union of body, mind, breath, and soul. That positive feeling you get when you leave the water lingers for hours, even days afterwards and improves your mental health. It’s like taking drugs but without the illegal/harmful bit!
Just being around water inspires a sense of calm and tranquillity and being in it deepens this experience and the benefits even further. It’s my belief that wild swimming is fundamental to holistic health and can be the ultimate meditation.
Swimming
with friends
Swimming with other women encourages social interaction and often deep, meaningful conversations, as well as clearing the mind and boosting our positivity, which improves our feeling of self-worth. It’s also just great fun… every swim is a mini adventure - it makes you feel like you can take on anything and means you are better equipped to ride the waves of modern life as a busy woman.
Anyone can swim, but I know that trying something new, outside of your comfort zone can feel scary. Maverick Mums is here to support you wherever you are in your wild swimming journey. Swim with us at on of our events, or just join our free WhatsApp group and meet new friends to swim with.

“It had been a difficult few years, battling with grief, the menopause, covid and family difficulties. I had lost myself along the way, always busy supporting the family and running my own business. Joining Maverick Mums, I have started taking time for myself. I have overcome fears and joined in with paddleboarding and open-water swimming. I’ve found new confidence, new friendships and improved my physical and mental strength. But, mostly I have found myself again.
Thank you Rhiannon, Luke and Becky for creating this wonderful community of amazing women. I am so pleased to be along for the ride and can't wait for the next adventure.”
